Hebrews 12:11 (NLT)
11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
A harvest that brings peace grows from the reproductive nature of living right.
Just live right for a while until what that produces brings you peace.
Only problem is that peace tomorrow isn’t enough of a motivator to live right today.
Too many things get in our way of executing our intentions.
Never fear! God has just the intervention we need.
God sows discipline. Chastening. Trouble.
He allows any of our bad living to grow a harvest.
It would be pleasant if God stunted the growth of all our lies, our greed, our pride, or our lust.
But it wouldn’t turn us towards righteousness.
A love for a harvest of peace is often cultivated in the hatred of a harvest of trouble.
Much of our unrest, trouble, angst, and misery stems from living badly.
What is God graciously allowing in your life to encourage you to change your behaviors?
What would a peaceful harvest look like if you were reaping it?
What kind of living would you have to live to achieve that?
If we will allow our consequences to train us—to learn from them—we have a chance to change our seed.
If we won’t change our living after learning from our mistakes, there’s only more of those mistakes to look forward to.
Let us thank our Father God, the Lord of the Harvest.
He loves us enough to allow us to grow the harvest that we plant.
